Christmas Letter 2011

The Poole Family ABC’s of 2011
As always, this year has been interesting, challenging, and memorable!
Bryce & Heidi got settled into their new home in Clearfield, UT in the Spring.
Carissa & Jonathan are handling the pressures of veterinarian school and parenting Noble (1) well in Oregon.
Danica & Michael have to be energizer bunnies to handle all of the work trips (Michigan and California for Michael) and doctor trips into SLC. (Sarah 10, Stewart 8, Mikaela, 6, Allen 1)
Every one of our posterity was together in Salt Lake City in July for a few days–it was wonderfully chaotic!
Fun in the Arizona sun for everyone in January while we were worried about baby Patrick’s open heart surgery. (He’s doing great now–no restrictions!)
Going to visit Jessica’s former mission areas with her little family in October.
Having to say goodbye to baby Jeremiah was difficult in February–his 13 days were more than had been predicted and a miracle for sure! Still, the loss feels huge. (http://pool-i-daynews.blogspot.com/2011/02/jeremiah-report-shortened-version.html)
Inching our way toward retirement–got some legal documents in place (thank you for prodding us, Bryce!)
Just spent hours and hours on a Christmas project that involved digitizing 4,500 pictures from slides and then making some photobooks for gifts. Very meaningful and fun project reminiscing together with Greg.
Kids grow up quickly–and this project has made that oh so noticeable!!
Learned how to file a claim in small claims court. Hated testifying. Won the case! Hope to never need that information again! After 19 months, we finally got our money refunded for a vacation rental agreement that went awry.
Mom’s massive major muckout–six months and counting on downsizing and cleaning every drawer, cupboard & nook.
Now we have two girls dating–it’s a trip!
Only Maggie on the high school swim team this year–and it’s her senior year!
Perhaps it’s because Marcie is too busy with JROTC to fit in the after school practices for swim team.
Quite the revolving door as they come and go–and their friends come and go!
Read some good books.
Spent time with many that we love–wish we could fit in seeing more of you!
Three LDS stakes were made into two stakes. Ours was in the middle–and it was dissolved. Our ward was also dissolved and half of it was put in one stake and the other half went to the other stake. It’s been challenging!
Utilizing technology to see and talk to our kids and grandkids as often as possible.
Very happy whenever one of the “littles” will talk to us on the phone!
Wishing for snow–that’s Greg. He checks for snowdepths at our mountain property almost daily and wishes he could go snowmobiling every Fri/Sat in the winter. He never gets his fill!
X’d out–gone! The four large pine trees in our yard are now removed and new baby trees have been planted.
Yes, Colleen is still out walking every morning–so glad to have a dependable, encouraging walking buddy!
Zany, brainy people probably think learning new software is a breeze–not so for Colleen–but I am working on using two new programs currently! I might be tortoise slow; but I plod along and I’m happy when something new “sticks” and works for me!

“Our family is a circle of love and strength; with every birth and every union, the circle grows. Every joy shared adds more love. Every crisis faced together makes the circle stronger.” –Anonymous
We hope your 2012 will be filled with growth, contentment, and enough of the things that matter most!
Merry Christmas!
Love, The Poole’s

Stewart's Staycation

We invited Stewart to choose his own adventure at our house this week. He has been such a great kid! The first night he chose a different bedroom than he has slept in before. It is in the basement--and he was concerned about what room was over his head. We told him the room with the piano was above him. He said, "so if the ceiling was gone, the piano would fall on me?" Then a few seconds later he said, "That would be pretty uncomfortable for sleeping."

We've tried to put some fun into all the days this week. We've done bowling, the park, Frogurt, swimming at Seven Peaks, swimming at the Taylorsville pool, lazer tag, reading a book together, jumping on the trampoline with the sprinkler running on it, tour of Grandpa's office, Jungle Jim's playground, lunches wherever there is an indoor play area, doughnut run, water fight, and lots of playing with bubbles! Tonight he and Grandpa have gone to the local climbing wall.

He loves rides that spin. He also loves bumper cars. I loved that I found those in air conditioned buildings! Isaiah joined us on Friday, and he loves bumper cars, as well. He would chortle if someone crashed into him. Probably Stewart's favorite fun was going for two bikerides with his Grandpa along the Jordan River Walkway. They found some dirt jumps that someone had built, and Stewart loved trying to go fast enough to get over them.

He has been such a happy camper! He has not given me a minute's trouble! He has minded me every time I asked him to do something! Go little man, I love you Stewart. Pictures to come if I ever remember to take a camera with me.

A truly moo-ving story!

For months, I have used the phrase "your cow is mooing," whenever I hear M & M's cell phones buzzing to recognize an incoming text message. I think they thought I was being a little eccentric with my explanation. Maggie told us that while she was on the pioneer trek last week, it finally made sense to her. They were pushing their handcarts through an area where cattle were grazing. She said the first time she she heard one of the cows moo, she turned around and looked to see who had their cell phone in their pocket (they were contraband items for the trek). Then it dawned on her--that really was a cow mooing! We all had a good laugh together when she reported that to us Saturday evening.

One of hundreds . . . Poole Piggyback Reunions

I have had at least a hundred blog posts go through my head in the last several months. Now that the three back-to-back reunions, the pioneer trek, and the Monstrous Muckout are mostly finished, I'll try to get my blogging head "back in the game." Here are some pictures taken at our Poole reunions last week.

Jones family at the Acquarium

Some folks took a walk around Silver Lake.

Yes, there was still snow up there!

Always plenty of great food when this crew gets together!

Baby P. acted like he remembered me the first time I got to hold him--and that made my day!

It doesn't take long to get good at Popsicles--and they were a great treat on a hot summer day!

Of course, little boys make a pretty great treat, too--and they don't mind being eaten.

Engaged in conversation with Baby P.

He's cruisin'!!

The kids were so high it was hard to pin them down for a snapshot!

Jonathan and N. just relaxing!

After grub time comes gab time--my favorite part!

Uncle Bryce trying to intimidate little P.

Little P.--apparently he knows that game--and wasn't at all intimidated!

Little A. showing who's boss!

We brought our own wildlife along when we went to the zoo!

Even some cute gopher-like creatures!

For sure, we didn't bring the hissing cockroach with us . . .

I think Phoenix people appreciate green grass the most . . .

Little I. getting his big gulp . . .

Root beer floats at the park--yum!!

Big slides make big smiles . . .

Every time!

I wonder if he's aboard a spacecraft traveling at warp speed?

Babies rule--and were so entertaining . . .

Grandpa and our A.

I. is fearless like his Daddy . . .
